ST. PETER — A patient is back at the Minnesota Security Hospital in St. Peter after escaping during an outing to a Mankato mall.

The Department of Human Services said 45-year-old Patrick Ryan Grande was found around 11:30 p.m. Friday in Mankato.

Police Cmdr. Matt DuRose said Grande apparently walked away from hospital staffers just after 6 p.m.

The Department of Human Services said in a statement that Grande posed no danger to the public. It said patients are often allowed community outings in the later stages of treatment if they don’t display dangerous behavior.

Court records said Grande was committed as mentally ill and dangerous in 1993 after an aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to a year in prison in 2014 for failing to return after he was given a day pass.
