Senior Resources will be hosting the Powerful Tools for Caregivers series from 2 to 4 p.m. on Tuesdays from Sept. 15 to Oct. 20.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers, developed by Stanford University, is an educational program designed for family and friends who are caring for older adults with long-term health conditions. Caregivers will develop skills and confidence to better care for themselves while caring for another. The weekly topics include reducing stress, communicating in challenging situations, mastering caregiving decisions and more.
Participants may be caring for a spouse or partner, parent, friend or neighbor in their own home or elsewhere. The class is taught by two trained facilitators using the Stanford-based curriculum.
According to a press release, Powerful Tools participants have reported increased ability to cope with caregiving demands, fewer feelings of anger, guilt and depression and better use of available community resources.
The class series is a part of Senior Resources’ Family Caregivers Network, providing options for support to area caregivers and their families.
