Albert Lea will be the site of the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota’s second-ever Instameet, a curated social outing for people to experience and photograph historic buildings and places. The gathering will take place on Oct. 17 with an itinerary that will take photographers through the Freeborn Bank Building, businesses in the downtown and a visit to Fountain Lake Park.

“I think it’s brilliant that the Alliance is embracing a new technology to show off historic places,” said City Manager Chad Adams.  The photos taken by participants will be posted on Instragram using the hashtag #InstaAlbertLea. After the event, there will be a friendly photo competition to share and display favorite images.

“Our mission at the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota is to lead and inspire people to connect with historic places. What better way to intimately connect with a place than through the lens of your camera?” said Erin Dorbin of the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota. “We selected Albert Lea as the location for this Instameet because of the city’s incredible architecture and its passionate people. Their enthusiasm for their historic downtown is contagious and creates an ideal location for this exploratory event.”
