LAKE MILLS — A long drive isn’t necessary to get what you need, even if you live in a small town. This is the premise behind the upcoming Holiday Trends & Friends event.

Entries are now being accepted for the event, which will see two winners receiving makeovers from businesses in Lake Mills. Those women will then be guests of an evening meant to entertain the public, while featuring the winners and highlighting their transformations.

“We want to make the customers aware that we have all of this available in Lake Mills,” said Rosalie Helgeson of Main Attractions, one of the two businesses spearheading the project. “They don’t have to go out of town. We can satisfy their fashion needs for hair, makeup, nails, fashion, massages, exercise, and we’ll have other home businesses there as well.”

Main Attractions will gift each winner with a $50 clothing and fashion accessory gift card to be used in the store while Salon 304 & Spa, the event’s other co-sponsor, will provide each winner with a new hairstyle and do their nails prior to the event. During the event, beautician Kati Smalley of Salon 304 said she’ll be giving demonstrations and tips on how to apply makeup using the two winners as their models.

Smalley, who is working with co-worker Lori Brekken on the project, said the salon’s part in the makeover will be completely up to the winner. If they would just like a haircut, that’s just fine. But if the winner would like a drastic makeover with a different color, cut or highlights, they’ll do that too. It is entirely up to the winner. The hairstyle itself will be done the week of Nov. 2, after the winners are chosen. Nails will be done as well. The winners will have their hair restyled at the salon before being showcased at the event.

“It’s kind of like a lady’s night out, but we’re taking it from a different approach,” said Jennifer McGrady of Main Attractions.

To enter the drawing for the makeovers, patrons of Lake Mills businesses need only drop their name into a drawing box at Main Attractions, Salon 304 & Spa, Kari Out Wine & Spirits or Myotherapy Specialties, which are just a few of the participating business. One winner will be chosen from the 20-to 40-year-old age range and one from the 40-plus age group. By entering, individuals are agreeing to not only be present but to participate in the Holiday Trends and Friends event. Winners will be chosen at random on Nov. 2. Holiday Trends and Friends will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 10 at Lake Mills Jazzercise.

Other businesses will be on hand featuring products and services in areas such as relaxation, nutrition, jewelry and beauty. Door prizes and refreshments will be offered to those in attendance.
