Interesting article about Internet access in outstate Minnesota in Wednesday’s paper. We need a discussion about wants verses needs and costs verses benefits. The governor’s commission estimates the cost of getting high speed Internet to all outstate residents at $2 billion to $5 billion — yes, it’s spelled with a “b.” The story references a person that has DSL access but has to travel 20 miles to get high speed Internet access. Do you know how many Minnesota residents travel 20 miles or more every day just to get to work? We do need to improve access where none is available but to expect taxpayers to foot the bill so someone can enjoy the up north lower cost of living while working in his pajamas at home is too much to expect from taxpayers.
