The Waldorf hockey team lost 3-2 Friday in a shootout at Wisconsin-Oshkosh during the Northern Collegiate Hockey League series opener, according to a press release.
Sixty-five minutes was not enough time for the Warriors (4-5, 2-1) or the Titans (5-1, 1-0) to pull ahead to a comfortable advantage.
Despite falling short, Waldorf outshot Wisconsin-Oshkosh 37-31.
The Warriors received goals from senior Reed Loucks and sophomore Jeffrey Bartel. Junior Alex Fleming and freshmen Cameron Batchelor and Ryan Veillet added assists.
Waldorf junior goaltender Nicholas Carroll recorded 29 saves.
The game was scoreless through the first period. Wisconsin-Oshkosh’s Brett Lessner found the back of the net for the game’s opening goal with less than two minutes remaining in the second period.
At the eight-minute mark in the third period, Loucks connected on the equalizer following a pass from Fleming. Less than two minutes later, the Warriors claimed a 2-1 lead when Bartel provided a goal with the help of Batchelor and Veillet.
As time was winding down, Michael LeDonne tied the match for the Titans with 1:53 remaining in regulation. Owen Ahlstrom and Adam Carlson contributed assists on the game-tying goal.
When neither team was able to tally a goal in the overtime period, the game went to a shootout.
Fleming and Veillet scored for Waldorf in the shootout. Wisconsin-Oshkosh won with shootout goals from Alex Edwards, Matt Edwards and J.T. Smithback.
