4 injured in Ellendale crash

Injuries from collision deemed not life-threatening

ELLENDALE — Four people were injured Sunday morning after a broadside crash in Steele County.

A 2004 Ford Taurus, driven by Lauren Moody, 23, was heading east on Minnesota Highway 30 when it was struck by a 2015 Kia Sorento driven by Russell L. Schmidt, 58, of Hartford, South Dakota, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Schmidt was heading west on Highway 30 and struck the Ford as it was making a left-hand turn into the Casey’s General Store at 9:38 a.m.

Moody, of Hartland, sustained no apparent injury, but her daughters, McKenna M. Moody, 1, and Kaylee M. Moody, younger than 1, sustained injuries deemed not life-threatening.

Schmidt and the passenger of the Kia, Rebecca A. Schmidt, 55, were transported to Owatonna Hospital with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

Alcohol was reportedly not a factor in the crash, and all occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.

 

1 injured in Freeborn County crash

One person was injured after a broadside crash Sunday afternoon on Freeborn County Road 46, east of Interstate 35 in Albert Lea near Trail’s Travel Center.

A 1999 Chevy pickup driven by Harold D. Mehus, 72, of Glenville was heading east on County Road 46 when it collided with a 2015 Chrysler 2LM driven by Karen J. Vanaalsburg, 70, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, at 12:20 p.m.

The Chrysler was heading north out of Trail’s Travel Center, turning to go west on County Road 46, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

Mehus and Vanaalsburg suffered no apparent injury.

The passenger of the Chrysler, Richard D. Vanaalsburg, 72, of Lee’s Summit, suffered injuries deemed not life-threatening and was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

Alcohol was reportedly not a factor in the crash, and all occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.

 

1 injured in rear-end collision

A Mankato man was injured in a rear-end crash Saturday afternoon in Blue Earth County.

A 2015 Toyota MTL driven by Keith W. Purscell, 84, of Mankato, was stopped in the lane of traffic northbound on Minnesota Highway 22 with its blinker on to turn west on 169th Street, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

A 2012 Honda Civic, driven by Jessica E. Huston, 34, of Walters, reportedly struck the Toyota.

The Toyota then reportedly struck a 2011 GMC Sierra driven by Amy M. Newman, 41, of Alden, traveling south on Highway 22.

The crash reportedly occurred shortly after 4:30 p.m.

Newman and Huston suffered no apparent injury.

Purscell was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Mankato with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office, Mapleton Fire Department and Gold Cross ambulance assisted on scene.

Alcohol was reportedly not a factor in the crash, and all occupants were wearing seatbelts, according to the report.

The State Patrol is investigating.
