Second snowstorm brings multiple crashes

A Kenyon man was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Austin Monday morning after a crash in eastern Freeborn County.
Jason Shane Hoaglund, 43, was reportedly driving a vehicle east on 110th Street when his vehicle entered a ditch and struck a utility pole at the intersection of 110th Street and 890th Avenue, a few miles from the Freeborn County and Mower County border. The pole reportedly collapsed.
Hoaglund reportedly sustained a leg injury and his injury was deemed non-life threatening, according to the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office.
Six other no-injury traffic crashes were reported in the Albert Lea area Monday on the season’s second snowfall.
Albert Lea woke up to snow Monday morning and mixed precipitation throughout the day.
The mixed precipitation led to slick roads.
A city plow reportedly struck a parked red Ford Escape at 10:56 a.m. Monday at 304 E. Hawthorne St. No damage was reportedly done.
Due to the conditions, after-school activities were canceled throughout the region, and Lake Mills and the Northwood-Kensett School District canceled school Monday.
Lake Mills Community Schools and Forest City Community Schools were under two-hour delays this morning.
According to the National Weather Service, as of this morning there was a chance of snow and freezing drizzle before 2 p.m. today, then a chance of drizzle and snow between 2 and 5 p.m., as well as a chance of snow and freezing drizzle after 5 p.m.
Less than a half-inch of snow is expected.
