Snow totals highest in south-central Minnesota
Albert Lea residents woke up to at least 6 inches of snow this morning, after a winter storm system moved through the area, according to measurements taken at Albert Lea’s wastewater treatment plant.
No injury traffic crashes were reported in Albert Lea or Freeborn County, though there were reports of people stuck or in ditches, according to logs available this morning.
Spinouts and crashes are complicating the morning commute on slippery highways and interstates in the Twin Cities area.
Forecasters are expecting another inch or two of snow on top of more than 4 inches on the ground in Minneapolis. Snow should taper off by this afternoon.
Snow totals are highest in south-central Minnesota where more than 8 inches fell in Martin County, 7 in Faribault County and 6 at Mankato in Blue Earth County.
Minnesota Department of Transportation engineer Scott McBride said hundreds of plow drivers worked extended shifts to clear 12,000 miles of roadway.
A storm warning was in effect until noon today.
