3 injured after separate crashes on icy I-35

ELLENDALE — An Albert Lea teenager was transported to the hospital after a traffic crash this morning in Steele County.

Kaitlyn M. Ravlin, 17, was transported to Owatonna Hospital by Ellendale ambulance with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

Ravlin was heading south on Interstate 35 in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am at 1:05 a.m. when she lost control of the car and went off the road into the median, two miles north of the Ellendale exit, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The Steele County Sheriff’s Office and Ellendale first responders assisted on scene.

Roads were icy at the time of the crash.

Ravlin was wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol wasn’t a factor, according to the report.

 

Two injured in crash

Two people were transported to Owatonna Hospital after a rear-end crash this morning in Freeborn County on Interstate 35 south of Ellendale.

Jennifer Anderson, 27, of Peoria, Illinois, and a 3-year-old boy were transported by Ellendale ambulance with injuries deemed not life-threatening.

Anderson was reportedly driving a 2001 Ford sedan southbound on I-35, two miles south of the Ellendale exit, when she was struck by a southbound Volvo semi, driven by Timothy L. Bates, 50, of Knoxville, Tennessee.

Bates was reportedly moving from the right lane to the left lane when he lost control and struck the Ford. The car was reportedly pushed off the road into the southbound ditch, and the semi and trailer came to rest in the center median, according to the report.

Roads were icy at the time of the crash.

Each person was reportedly wearing a seatbelt, and alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash, according to the report.

The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office and Geneva Fire and Rescue assisted on scene.
