Open house to feature several artworks using various mediums
The Albert Lea Art Center starting next week will highlight the art of its members in what is the organization’s first exhibit of 2016.
The popular All-Member Show annual gallery exhibit will begin with an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 17 and continue through Feb. 6.
Tom Mullen, gallery chairman, said he anticipates there to be 40 to 50 pieces on display once all of the artwork is collected.
Each year, the members are invited to display their art. Though some of the artists are familiar to many in Albert Lea, some members use this opportunity to display their art once a year.
As of press time, the artists represented in the show were the following:
• Joyce Kogel, watercolor painting
• Marty Shepard, mixed media
• Tom Mullen, photography
• Bev Jackson-Cotter, pencil drawing and photography
• Lu Callstrom, acrylic and oil painting
• Darlyne Paulson, oil painting
• Ann Oliphant, colored pencil drawing
• Harlan Bang, colored pencil drawing and watercolor painting
• Ruth Olson, acrylic painting
• Joyce Purdy, photography
• Rory Mattson, watercolor painting
Each work of art will be labeled with the artist’s name, title of the art, medium and sale information if desired. The art will be on display in both of the back gallery rooms at the Art Center.
New exhibitor’s artwork will be labeled with a sticker.
“We really want the public and all the members who participate to come to enjoy the work,” Mullen said.
He said the Art Center is seeing increased membership as club leaders have worked to expand the variety of art on display throughout the year.
An open house for the show will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 17. After that, gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. The show continues through Feb. 6.
