I’m writing to support our native species. Wolves in Minnesota are the largest and only original wolf population in the lower 48 states. There is a way to coexist together. As a nation, we spent millions of dollars on endangered species; the eagle, for example, as well as the wolf. Both are success stories.

What doesn’t make sense is that some politicians want to rush to kill wolves — and have a recreational wolf hunt — as soon as the wolves are taken off the endangered species list. We sure won’t do that to other animals. That’s precisely what will happen if the Senate’s Environment and Public Works Committee passes the Bipartisan Sportsman Act of 2016. Just recently the committee approved an amendment to the bill which would remove protections for wolves, and take them off the list.

Let’s be smart about the survival of our natural species. It’s important to safeguard the survival progress from the possibility of de-stabilizing a fragile population. Let the Endangered Species Act do its job. We don’t need a reckless hunting season.
