UTICA — Protesters unhappy with dog breeding permits granted to a Winona County farmer demonstrated outside his home over the weekend in sub-zero weather.
LeRoy Yoder is one of several Amish famers who were given permits by the County Board, despite past citations from federal agriculture officials.
Yoder and five other farmers from the Utica and Saratoga Township area have permission to have dozens of dogs on their property. Yoder can keep up to 85 adult dogs.
According to a press release, more than a dozen protesters stood outside Yoder’s farm and held signs, one which read “Against Puppy Mills.”
