To the possibility of more workforce housing in Albert Lea.
The Albert Lea City Council this week approved an application for $100,000 in funding from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development. If awarded, the funding will go to assist a developer in building two new six-plexes of workforce housing off of Wedgewood Road, west of the intersection of U.S. Highway 69 and West Ninth Street.
The developer, TSB Construction Inc. of Janesville, has already constructed 18 units in that area.
According to a recent housing study, it is estimated that Freeborn County will need 80 to 100 new rental units in the next 10 years.
These additional buildings would support that need.
To all of the newspaper carriers and letter carriers.
It has been a cold week in Minnesota as wind chills have dipped to 30 below zero and the area has twice been under wind chill advisories.
We issue a special thanks to all of the letter carriers and newspaper carriers who go out into these below zero temperatures to deliver the newspaper and our mail.
Not everyone could do this, and we are thankful.
To Lake Mills basketball player Granger Kingland.
Lake Mills basketball player Granger Kingland broke the school’s scoring record on Tuesday in a game against West Hancock.
Kingland, who was named the Tribune’s All-Area boys’ basketball Player of the Year last season, scored 43 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Kingland continues to impress, and we look forward to seeing what will happen next.
To recent burglaries in Albert Lea.
There were a handful of burglaries reported across Albert Lea. Everything from a bicycle, a car, jewelry and a television were stolen.
We encourage the public to be vigilant in calling the police if you see anything suspicious. Pay attention to what is happening in your neighborhood, and trust your instincts.
