Area under wind chill warning through Sunday morning
The National Weather Service has extended the wind chill advisory for southern Minnesota through Monday morning as dangerous wind chills are expected to linger.
The Weather Service on Saturday said southern Minnesota was under a wind chill warning that was expected to continue until today. The advisory goes through Monday morning.
Cold temperatures combined with northwest winds between 5 and 15 mph are expected to result in wind chill values between 25 and 35 degrees below zero.
Wind chill values will bottom out around 45 degrees below zero in western Minnesota with minimum values around 35 degrees below zero for the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin.
Today is expected to have a high of 7 degrees below zero.
According to the Weather Service, frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. People are advised to wear a hat and gloves.
Law enforcement previously advised no unnecessary travel.
