The Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Guild of Organists will host a Mendelssohn workshop and lecture from 9:30 a.m. to noon Saturday at First Presbyterian Church, 308 Water St. in Albert Lea.
James Hammann, an esteemed chapter member, will present a lecture on the life and organ music of Felix Mendelssohn. Hammann has recently retired from being the co-chairman of the music department at the University of New Orleans, where he taught organ and music theory. He presently resides in Iowa Falls, Iowa, where he is a church organist and active recitalist. In May 1998 Hammann recorded all of the major organ works of Felix Mendelssohn on a 1785 Stumm Brothers organ in Neckargemund, Germany. Refreshments will precede the workshop and the public is welcome to attend.
