Helen Christensen, 1929-2016

Memorial services for Helen M. Christensen, 86, of Albert Lea will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral chapel. The Rev. Elizabeth Endicott will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday. Online condolences are welcome at www.bayviewfuneral.com.

Helen died on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin.

Helen Marie Christensen was born on July 30, 1929, in Milwaukee, the daughter of Harry and Ada (Lewis) Wilson. She came to Minnesota with her family as a girl. Helen was a graduate of Austin High School. She worked for the Kasson Cafe where she met her husband, John F. Christensen. After their marriage the couple lived in various communities in the area, eventually settling in Albert Lea. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Eagles Lodge and the American Legion Auxiliary. Helen and John enjoyed dancing. Blessed be her memory.

Survivors include her daughters Sharon Bartow, Sandy (Larry) Arnault, Carol (Randy) Koening, Judy Sward and Tammy (Jeff) Harder; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters Shirley Bogdanish and Donna Whelan; and nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; brother, Ronnie; and sisters Lorraine and Heidi.
