Weekend Planner: Popular trombone quartet to perform for A.L. Civic Music

An internationally acclaimed trombone quartet will perform Sunday as part of the third production in the Albert Lea Civic Music concert series.

Maniacal 4 tells “one unified, inspiring story after another” and is hailed as “a force to be reckoned with,” according to the Civic Music poster.

Maniacal 4 has performed on three continents, entertaining audiences with a wide range of styles and time periods.

Originating from the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas, the group is well versed in classical, jazz, Latin and rock. They perform almost exclusively from memory.

The concert will begin at 3 p.m. in the Albert Lea High School auditorium. Season tickets are $40 each or $85 for a family.

The following is a roundup of other activities taking place this weekend:

 

Friday

• The American Red Cross will host two blood drives in Albert Lea. The first, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea. The second, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be at First Lutheran Church.

• The “Going Places” art exhibit at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 224 S. Broadway.

• Albert Lea Community Theatre’s production of “Don’t Hug Me I’m Pregnant” will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Saturday

The Albert Lea Area Schools science fair will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.

The “Going Places” art exhibit at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 224 S. Broadway.

Albert Lea Community Theatre’s production of “Don’t Hug Me I’m Pregnant” will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

 

Sunday

• The Albert Lea Masonic Lodge will host an amaranth pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. above the Albert Lea Community Theatre. Menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, orange juice and coffee. Boy Scouts from Troop 7 will wait tables.

• The Alano Society of Albert Lea will host a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at 1005 N. Ulstad Ave., Albert Lea. Menu includes pancakes, french toast, eggs, hash browns, sausage, toast, orange juice and coffee. Cost is $6 for all you can eat.
