Austin man arrested after high-speed interstate chase

Authorities arrested an Austin man Sunday afternoon after he led Minnesota State Patrol troopers on a high-speed chase on Interstate 90 for almost 20 miles.

The chase reportedly began at 3:38 p.m. near Minnesota Highway 13 in Albert Lea and ended two miles west of the Bricelyn exit.

Robert Wayne Hoium, 57, is being held in the Faribault County jail on charges of fleeing police. Other charges may be pending, said Minnesota State Patrol Sgt. Troy Christianson.

Christianson said troopers initially attempted to stop Hoium after receiving a driving complaint.

Hoium reportedly remained in the westbound lanes of traffic during the chase, other than crossing into the median a few times.

The vehicle, which exceeded 70 mph, was ultimately stopped after being immobilized by authorities.

State Patrol troopers and Faribault County Sheriff’s Office deputies made the arrest.

 

Multiple items reported stolen

A Playstation 4 and a 50-inch flat-screen television were reported stolen at 5:47 p.m. Friday at 230 S. Pearl St. in Albert Lea.

A television lamp and hanging pots were reported stolen at 11:07 p.m. Friday at 72159 Wineglass Road. The incident reportedly happened between Tuesday and Friday.

A gas theft of $22.79 was reported at 6:39 p.m. Saturday at SuperAmerica, 23087 Minnesota Highway 13. The vehicle was described as being a white Ford Escape with dealer plates from Blue Nile Auto in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The vehicle reportedly left heading east on Interstate 90. No contact was made.

 

Theft by fraud reported

A Visa card was reported used without permission at 12:13 p.m. Friday at Tobacco Store, 2312 Hendrickson Road. The incident reportedly happened April 12.

 

Trailer broken into

A trailer was reported broken into at 4:48 p.m. Saturday at 802 E. 18 1/2 St.

 

1 arrested on warrant

Albert Lea police arrested Sylvia Pearl Cramer, 30, on a Washington County warrant at 5:56 p.m. Friday at 1820 Margaretha Ave.

 

Fire reported

A fire was reported at 8:34 p.m. Sunday at 1428 Frank Hall Drive. No other information was available at press time.

 

1 arrested on violation

Police arrested Kenneth Deyemi Dean Jr., 31, for a probation violation at 4:26 p.m. Saturday at Freeborn County Law Enforcement Center.

 

Assault reported

An assault was reported at 10:35 p.m. Friday at Freeborn County Law Enforcement Center. No other information was available as of press time.

 

3 cited for underage drinking

Police cited Dylan Michael Espinosa, 20, for underage drinking at 12:23 a.m. Saturday in a traffic stop at 100 W. Hawthorne St. Police cited Cheyenne Thomas Fuller, 19, for underage drinking and possession of drug paraphernalia and a juvenile for underage drinking and fleeing on foot. The juvenile was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea for an evaluation.

 

Revolver, knife missing

A revolver and a hunting knife were reported missing from a cabin at 7:42 p.m. Sunday at 73931 325th St., outside Hartland.
