LAKE MILLS — From attendee to organizer.

Cassie Johnson, executive director of the Lake Mills Chamber Development Corporation, grew up attending the annual July Jubilee. At the time, she never thought she would organize the yearly event, but now she is.

Her favorite memory of the celebrations that have gone by centers around the community.

“My favorite July Jubilees were the ones that I came home from college to go to because then you get to reconnect with people,” she said.

There are many established events returning this year, according to Johnson.

On July 8 there will be a bake sale at 9 a.m. at Lake Mills Civic Center. The Lake Mills Senior Citizens Club will sponsor the sale, which will end when all its items are sold.

Registration also will begin for the 10th annual 5K from noon to 5 p.m. starting at Lake Mills Physical Therapy.

According to organizers, registrations with payment must be received by June 27 to guarantee a commemorative zip-up in a specific size. Extra garments will be available at registration on a first-come, first-serve basis. Registration will continue at 6:45 a.m. July 9 with the race to begin at 7:30 a.m. The funds donated from the race will benefit Lake Mills Bulldog Youth Running Club.

“We feel very strongly about having our donations assist this youth club as it encourages lifelong fitness, working together on a goal and being a part of a healthy organization, all at no cost to the students,” said LuAnn Scholbrock, who helps organize the run.

The street dance beer garden will open at 7 p.m., an hour prior to a performance by the Devon Worley Band.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 9, flea market and craft vendors will be open at Oakwood Park. Free entertainment will also be available at the park from noon to 3 p.m. The Rendezvous will be open all day at Popcorn Hill. The event will feature crafts and demonstrations from days gone by.

The parade will start at 10:30 a.m. According to Johnson, the route has yet to be determined and she is still accepting entries into the parade.

Lunch will be available at Oakwood Park. The Parents for D.C. Community Picnic supports the Lake Mills eighth-grade trip to Washington, D.C., each spring. In case of rain, the picnic will be moved to Lake Mills school.

Lake Mills Wrestling Club will celebrate 50 years of wrestling with an open house from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the new wrestling room at the school. Lake Mills wrestling alumni are encouraged to attend. Refreshments and snacks will be provided at the event.

The beer garden will once again open at 7 p.m. with a performance by Boogie and the Yo Yoz to follow at 8 p.m.

The events will wind down on July 10. A radio-controlled air show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m at the airport with concessions available from Lake Mills Girl Scouts.

The full schedule of events can be found at www.lakemillsia.org/ and will be added to as other events are confirmed. Any businesses or organizations that would like to sponsor an event, be a food vendor or take part in the parade can contact Johnson at 641-592-5253 or lmcdc@wctatel.net.
