Absolute praise and gratitude for Sheriff Freitag and the department for the recent addition of the K-9 unit. Larger departments have had great success with K-9 units for years — narcotics interdiction, searches for lost people and officer safety, to name just a few essential elements of the K-9 program. We are very fortunate to have elected such a progressive and insightful sheriff, who looks at the total needs of the community in which he serves. I have no doubt that lives will be saved by the implementation of this new unit. One dog and a trained handler can stop carloads of illegal narcotics from reaching our community and other cities in the state. Thank you for this essential addition too further the needs of public safety.
