Albert Lea singles and doubles dominate Mankato East

The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team absolutely took it to Mankato East during its meet Tuesday afternoon.

The Tigers picked apart the Cougars, winning 6-1.

Taylor Herfindahl was on top of his game in the No. 1 singles match. He won easily 7-5, 6-1, while teammate Foster Otten handled his business in the No. 2 match with a shutout 6-0, 6-0.

“Our singles lineup played very well (today),” Tigers’ coach Tom Dyrdal said. “All four of them kept the ball in play and showed patience.”

Schafer Overgaard and Grant Herfindahl also earned victories in singles play.

In doubles play, Austin Dulitz and Nikk Christianson found their game again after struggling lately. They won 6-1, 6-1. Andrew Huerta-Ortiz and Keith Gryzbowski also won in doubles action.

“(Austin) and (Nikk) found their game again,” Dyrdal said. “They struggled in their previous doubles match, but were back on their game today. Grzybowski and Huerta-Ortiz played well and are becoming a very strong team at the No. 3 doubles spot.”

Sam Ehrhardt and Callen Hoelscher fell in their doubles match.

The victory was the seventh of the season for Tigers, equalling their win total from 2015. They have four matches to play, and will be on the road Thursday (Winona) and Friday (Owatonna).
