Students and staff of Hawthorne Elementary school walked around Fountain Lake Friday, after a one week postponement of the walk-a-thon.
According to a press release, blue skies and warm weather accompanied the students as they walked, picnicked at Lakeview Park and played and danced at Pioneer Park. The walk-a-thon funds will go toward field trips, family events, books and more.
Several incentives were given to encourage the students to raise funds. Classes who had full participation earned a pizza party, top fund raisers earned Walmart gift cards, and a raffle gave two students a Kindle Fire and another student the opportunity to be principal for the day.
This was the school’s first time reaching its goal and it hopes to carry on with this tradition, according to a press release.
Students arrived back at Hawthorne playground at 2 p.m. to celebrate their walk with fruit and cookies.
