Over 1,200 eighth-grade students from an eight district school consortium attended the STEAM AHEAD career exploration fair, which took place in Austin at the end of April.

The event was designed to be a hands-on event for students looking at their future careers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math. By highlighting careers within the area, the event was intended to build enthusiasm and increase interest in specific fields, which is one way to help build a future workforce pipeline.

According to a press release, plans are to rotate the event between Austin, Owatonna and Albert Lea each year. The event was sponsored by Riverland Community College, Minnesota Workforce Center and Albert Lea, Austin, Owatonna chambers of commerce.
