1 man dies, another hurt in ATV crash

BLOOMING PRAIRIE — Authorities said an all-terrain vehicle crash has killed one man and injured another in southern Minnesota.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday in Blooming Prairie. Police Chief Greg Skillestad said 32-year-old Nathan McFarland of Austin was driving the ATV when he struck a tree.

Attempts to revive McFarland failed, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger, Kevin Maday, was treated for a broken nose, cracked ribs and cuts and bruises.

Both men worked for a motorcycle shop in Blooming Prairie and were moving the ATV when the crash happened.

According to a press release, the crash remains under investigation, but the police chief said there did not seem to be any mechanical issues with the ATV.
