Two Iowa residents were arrested after reportedly leading multiple law enforcement agencies on a chase Wednesday night that exceeded 100 mph.
Sierra King, 18, of Britt, Iowa, and Dennis Countryman, 53, of Titonka, Iowa, are being held in Faribault County jail on charges ranging from fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle to driving under the influence.
King — the alleged driver of the 2010 Dodge pickup — reportedly led officers on the chase that started in Britt, traveled through northern Iowa and crossed into Minnesota.
According to a Faribault County Sheriff’s Office press release, the vehicle crossed into Minnesota and was reportedly entering Kiester at 11:40 p.m. with speeds in excess of 100 mph.
Once the vehicle was north of Kiester, the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office reportedly deployed spike strips and punctured the vehicle’s right front tire.
The vehicle reportedly continued north toward Wells and collided with two Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office squad cars and a utility pole. The chase reportedly ended when the pickup lost control and crashed at the intersection of 600th Avenue and 250th Street in Faribault County.
Britt Police Department, Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office and Buffalo Center Police Department, all out of Iowa; as well as the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Wells Police Department and Minnesota Lake and Wells ambulances assisted.
Fleeing a peace officer carries a maximum sentence of three years and one day in prison and a $5,000 fine.
