The Albert Lea girls’ golf team had a tremendous season.

The Tigers capped off their season by holding their end-of-the-year banquet at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club on Wednesday.

After making the state tournament in 2015, the Tigers came just three strokes short in 2016, losing to Jordan 752-755 and placing second in the section.

But that didn’t take away from the success the Tigers experienced during the season.

Sara Rasmussen, Bailey Sandon and Samantha Nielsen were the three seniors who led the Tigers in 2016.

Lexie Simon was named junior varsity most valuable player, Nielsen was named varsity most valuable player, and Emma Loch was named most improved player.

The Tigers will return three golfers in 2017, meaning three spots will be open for next season. That’s something that has coach Shawn Riebe intrigued.

“It will be interesting to see who steps up and plays enough this summer to grab the other three spots,” Riebe said

Loch, Maddy Carstens and Natalie Nafzger will be the returning golfers for the Tigers.
