Albert Lea shines brighter than the field at golf sections

The Albert Lea boys’ golf team had a tremendous day on the links Tuesday at New Prague Golf Club.

The Tigers shot a team score of 319, beating every team by a minimum of 22 strokes.

Senior Alex Syverson led the Tigers, and finished second overall, with a 75. Jack Pulley and Brock Carstens both shot a 79, giving the Tigers a solid foothold in the top five individually. Sam Chalmers shot an 86, Danny Chalmers finished with a 91 and Bergan Lundak scored a 93.

While it was just the first of two rounds, the Tigers have a strong grasp on the rest of the section, and getting off to a good start is always important.

NRHEG also competed on the same course, but didn’t experience as much success as Albert Lea.

The Panthers came in 16th place out of 17 teams, shooting 440 as a team.

Atom Oquist and Nick Schultz tied for the lowest score on the team. Both players shot a 104.

Ross Lenort and Aaron Olson both shot a 116, and Ethan Thompson shot a 131. Chris Stenzel’s score was not reported.

On the girls’ side, the Panthers finished 10th out of 15 teams.

They shot 453 as a team, and were led by Jessica Nafe’s score of 104. Bayli Possin shot a 107 and her sister, Kyra, shot a 118. Kallie Spooner finished with a 124, Grace Logan scored a 135 and Tali Wayne had a 138.

Both Albert Lea and NRHEG will be back at New Prague Golf Club on Monday.
