Alden to host Morin Lake Days this weekend

ALDEN ­— Alden’s Morin Lake Days will kick off at noon Friday with the Morin Lake Days medallion hunt.

Clues will be posted to the front door of City Hall each day at noon and 6 p.m. until the medallion is found.

The Wes Hintz fishing contest will take place from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Morin Lake. Children up to age 16 can participate as long as they bring their own equipment and bait. Instructions will be given out at the park shelter. Those who are hooked on fishing can visit the Community Museum from 1 to 4 p.m.

Several events will take place at 5 p.m. at the lake. The Community Pride Monument will be dedicated, Alden Boy Scouts will serve supper on the lake and the Alden American Legion Auxiliary will host its kiddie carnival.

The FFA-sanctioned kiddie tractor pull will start at 7 p.m. outside Hemmingway Transfer.

The Sons of the American Legion softball tournament will start Friday evening and run into the following day at North Park. North Park will also host volleyball tournaments and food stands throughout Saturday.

The early morning hours will include Methodist Church Women serving coffee and treats at the church, and Redeemer Church will host a bake sale. The Legion will also host a pancake breakfast. Each of these events start at 8 a.m., just an hour before the Morin Lake Days Fun Run. Participants can sign up for a 10k, a three-mile run or a one-mile run/walk.

The Community Museum will once again be open for self-guided tours from 1 to 4 p.m. Canoe races and other lake activities will start at 2 p.m. and run until the inflatable obstacle course opens at 4 p.m.

The parade will start at 7 p.m. and will be led by grand marshal Lester Perschbacher. After the parade, there will be an ice cream social at Alden City Hall. The teen street dance later in the evening will feature Entertainment Plus and will run from 8 p.m. to midnight. The adult street dance featuring Bach Swine is sponsored by the Alden American Legion. It will run from 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m.

Morin Lake Days fireworks are scheduled for dusk.

Activities will wrap up Sunday with a Lions Club pancake breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon.

Morin Lake Days Worship by the Water will take place at 9:30 a.m.

The Community Museum will be open from noon to 3 p.m. and canoes will also be available to rent during this time.
