After torrential downpours cancelled their game on Friday, the Lake Mills Bulldogs traveled to Wartburg College for a Saturday tournament.

In their opening round game, the Bulldogs got a solid pitching performance from Zach Throne, but needed two runs in the sixth inning to overcome Nevada, IA 6-5.

The Bulldogs managed only six hits in the ballgame, but each hit came from a different player, and four different players drove in a run.

Throne pitched 5 2/3 innings, and allowed five hits and one earned run. He struck out five.

The victory put the Bulldogs in the championship game against the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks, a team which had been on a roll over the past week.

That roll would continue against Lake Mills.

The Go-Hawks scored early and often against Bulldogs pitcher Grant Boehmer.

Boehmer allowed 10 runs over 1 2/3 innings, but just three runs were earned.

The Go-Hawks scored three runs in the first inning, then added nine in the second, and tacked on three more in the third.

The Bulldogs had two hits in the game, and were shutout for the first time all season.

They have a record of 7-5, and will host West Hancock tonight.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
