A.L. native graduates

Sheila Calderon of Albert Lea graduated with a Master of Science in nursing from Graceland University during the university’s spring commencement on May 1.

 

Area native receives fellowships

Daniel Schindler, 2005 graduate of Albert Lea High School and son of Gary and Jeanne Schindler of Albert Lea, was awarded three graduate fellowships to pursue his doctoral dissertation research at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. He received the Timothy Mooney Fellowship, the Carolina Center for Jewish Studies Graduate Fellowship and he was also named an Albright Fellow, which includes serving as a resident scholar at the W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem. Schindler will depart for Israel to the Huqoq archeological site in South Galilee this month to serve as the excavation team’s chief ceramicist.

 

Bethany Lutheran College awards scholarships

Three area students were awarded scholarships from Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato.

Taylor Herfindahl was awarded the Presidential Scholarship for the 2016-17 school year. The Presidential Scholarship is valued at $48,000 over four years and is based on the student’s grade point average and national standardized test scores.

Nicholas Christianson and Emma Iverson were awarded the Luther Scholarship. The Luther Scholarship is valued at $44,000 over four years is based on the student’s grade point average and national standardized test scores.

All three students are members of the 2016 graduating class of Albert Lea High School.

 

Area students named
to dean’s list

Three area students were among the 3,679 North Dakota State University students to be placed on the spring 2016 dean’s list.

Those honored included Taylor Willis of Albert Lea, who is a pharmaceutical sciences major; Noah Brehmer of Austin, who is a civil engineering major; and Jacob Nelson of Austin, who is a management communications major.

A student must earn a 3.50 grade point average or higher and be enrolled in at least 12 class credits to qualify for the spring list.

 

Student receives dean’s list honors

Ridgewater College recently announced that Amanda Anderson of Clarks Grove has been named to the spring semester 2016 dean’s list. In order to be included on the dean’s list a student must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and be enrolled in at least twelve credits.
