To the new community art initiative called Albert Lea Rocks.thumb.up

We were impressed as soon as we heard about the new initiative called Albert Lea Rocks, in which people paint rocks and hide them around the community. Once people find one of the hidden rocks, they take pictures of themselves with the rocks and then post the photos online, before hiding the rocks again for another person to find.

The idea took off quickly in the community, and it has been fun to see people get excited about it this week. People young and old are participating, and it is bringing a sense of unity in the community.

Thanks to Dori Etheridge and Kari Ulrich, who got this initiative off the ground. We look forward to seeing how this initiative grows in the future.

To the two completed projects that originated from the Idea Splash.thumb.up

Residents and city leaders celebrated the completion of two new projects in Albert Lea on Saturday. First is the dog park, which is behind the Brookside Boathouse, and second is Cellfie Tours, which takes place primarily downtown.

The two projects received funding from a Southern Minnesota Initiative grant given to the city.

The dog park, which features separate spaces for both large and small dogs, will be an asset for not only residents but people passing through the area as well.

Cellfie Tours provides a connection between modern-day technology and the history of the community.

Look to the Tribune on Monday for coverage from the celebration.

Congratulations to the Albert Lea High School boys’ golf team and USC’s Ryan Pederson for competing this week at the Minnesota State High School League boys’ golf tournament.

Pederson finished in eight place and tied with three others in the Class A boys’ tournament.
