Albert Lea senior shortstop and Big 9 Conference Player of the Year, Jake Thompson, has been selected to participate in the 42nd annual Minnesota High School Baseball All-Star Series.

The event will be Friday and Saturday at Chaska Athletic Park and Chanhassen High School.

Six teams — North, South, Metro North, Metro South, Metro East and Metro West — will play a round-robin schedule.

Thompson was selected after he had a season worthy of being named Big 9 All-Conference and the Player of the Year in the conference.

He finished the season with a .443 batting average, 15 RBIs, 13 doubles, 14 stolen bases and 20 scored runs.
