Weekend Planner: Activities abound on holiday weekend in Freeborn County

The Albert Lea area will abound in activities this holiday weekend.

Whether it’s festivals in Northwood, Bricelyn or Albert Lea, there’s something to do for all ages.

The following is a roundup of all the activities taking place:

 

Friday

The Albert Lea Art Center’s “Art Works From Our Travels” exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 226 W. Clark St.

Bricelyn’s 59th annual Fourth of July celebration kicks off with a pork sandwich supper from 5 to 7 p.m. and a free movie at 7:30 p.m. Throughout the next few days, events will also include a bean bag tournament, a 5k run, a volleyball tournament and a parade. A pool party at 5 p.m. will signify the beginning of Northwood’s Fourth of July festivities. The event lasts throughout the weekend, including events like a root beer garden for children, performances by Bad Girl and Angel Val, a softball tournament and a parade. The Pelican Breeze II will hold a pizza cruise from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Reservations must be made by 4 p.m. Reservations are $20 per person. Call 383-7273 to make a reservation.

Saturday

The Ron Sander Memorial Run will be in Bricelyn. Registration begins at 8 a.m. in front of Farmers Trust and Savings Bank on Main Street. At 8:30 a.m., a 1-mile walk/run will begin with the 5k beginning at 9 a.m.

The Albert Lea Art Center’s “Art Works From Our Travels” exhibit will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 226 W. Clark St.

The High Street Band will give a performance at 7 p.m. at the Beaver Lake Pavilion in Ellendale.

 

Sunday

Harmony Park will celebrate 20 years of Harmony. However, early camping will be allowed on Friday with performances from two bands. There will also be a pre-party event Saturday. The festival will include more than 15 bands.To participate in early camping or the pre-party, event-goers must have tickets to the Sunday show. The event is open to people of all ages.

The Eagles Club will serve pancakes, eggs, biscuits and gravy, and coffee, among other things from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $8.

Music in the Park will present country/soul group Echo Messenger at 3 p.m. at Fountain Lake Park.

The annual Third of July Parade in will begin at 6 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

The Alden American Legion will hold a breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage links, coffee and more will be served.

The Pelican Breeze II will hold a cruise with Al Batt at 1:30 p.m. Tickets will be $10 per person.

 

Monday

The American Legion in Albert Lea will sponsor a car show from 2 to 6 p.m. downtown.

There will be a special Fourth of July performance by the Bayside Ski Team from 2 to 3 p.m. at Bayside Edgewater Park in Albert Lea

The Albert Lea Community Band will be giving a patriotic concert from 8 to 9 p.m. at the Gazebo at Fountain Lake Park in Albert Lea

The Pelican Breeze II will hold a Fourth of July cruise at 6 p.m. Tickets are $10.
