50 years ago: 1966
• Lowell Doppelhammer threw a four-hitter with 11 strikeouts for Conger in its 7-0 shut out of Our Savior in a Church League National Division softball game.
• In a Church League softball game, Hartland defeated St. Theodore 1-0 behind the three-hit pitching of Ken Sibilrud.
• The Elbow Room beat the City Employees 19-6 in an Albert Lea Slowpitch League American Division game. Roger Butenhoff had four hits, including two home runs, and Bob Winjum also homered for the Elbow Room.
• Steve Hanson had five hits and homered two times for the Tribune in their 17-11 victory over Salem Lutheran in another American Division Slowpitch game.
25 years ago: 1991
• Fourteen-year-old Donna Boom of Albert Lea won the Minnesota PGA Junior Golfing Classic.
• In the Southern Minnesota League baseball playoffs the Albert Lea Colonels defeated Waseca 6-3 in Game 1. Vern Frydenlund and Derek Fleek homered for the Colonels. Fleek, Frydenlund and Brad Tullberg hit home runs in the second-round game to lead the Colonels to an 8-4 win over Faribault. Fleek was the winning pitcher.
10 years ago: 2006
• The Albert Lea U-13 Moose Lodge traveling baseball team won its second straight state championship.
In pool play games, it defeated Farmington 5-2, Woodbury 7-2 and tied White Bear Lake 8-8 and received the top spot ranking.
In the championship round Albert Lea defeated East View 13-3, Eden Prairie 7-3, Lakeville 7-3 in the semi-final round and Centennial 8-3 in the championship game. Coach Dave Klatt and the AL traveling baseball team won the South Central Baseball League with an 8-0 record. Team members were Nick Dulas, Carter Kortan, Corey Hansen, Cole Sorenson, J. T. Bellrichard, Kyle Kriewall, Josh Eisenbraun, Dillon Stolt, Aaron Klatt, Dave Grano and Cameron Solif.
• In boys district soccer, the Albert Lea U-13 lost to Dakota 2-1 and it ended its season. Callen Pirsig scored the Albert Lea goal.
