FOREST CITY — Forest City will be alive with activities this weekend. Citizens of the city and surrounding areas will congregate together during the 2016 annual Puckerbrush Days celebration.
Starting today, the Forest City Chamber of Commerce will provide food, music and activities to all who attend.
Today will kick off with a farmers market and music at 3 p.m. in Clark Park. A few more highlights will take place throughout the day. Starting at 4 p.m., Waldorf Library will host an author meet and greet. At 7 p.m., “Into the Woods” will be performed at the Forest City High School auditorium. The night will wrap up with a pool party at Forest City Aquatic Center from 8 to 10 p.m.
Friday’s events are equally abundant, but a few highlights are as follows: 10 a.m. will mark the start of a celebrity story hour at the public library. At 4:30 p.m. there will be a Lions Club corn and pork feed on South Clark Street. An ice cream social will be at 5 p.m. in the courthouse square. At 5:45 p.m., Little Mr./Ms. Puckerbrush will be crowned on South Clark Street. To end the festivities, entertainment will be provided on the K Street stage from 7:30 p.m. to close.
Saturday will be the busiest day. A few events are expected to be favorites, however. A 5k walk/run will start on South Sixth Street at 7:30 a.m. The Forest City American Legion will host a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m.
The Puckerbrush Days Parade, themed “Celebrate Iowa” will start at 10 a.m. Starting at noon, United Methodist Church will have a pie and ice cream event and at 1 p.m, a bean bag toss tournament will be on Waldorf Lawn.
