One streak came to an end, but one streak kept going when the Albert Lea boys’ soccer team met Worthington Tuesday night.
The Tigers got two goals from senior captain Sam Ehrhardt and one from Josh Englin to come back from a 2-1 deficit to win 3-2 and extend their record to 3-0.
The Tigers came into Tuesday’s game without allowing a goal in two games, a scoreless streak of 160 minutes. That streak lasted another 19:10 into Tuesday’s game before Worthington ended it.
It was Albert Lea who got on the board first. Worthington goalkeeper Sander Diaz was called for a hand-ball outside of the box, and that led to an Albert Lea free kick just outside the box. Ehrhardt proved it was prime striking territory, too. He lined up the free kick and curved it over the Worthington wall and past Diaz for the first goal of the game.
But Worthington would respond with two consecutive goals to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
The Tigers got fired up to start the second half, and that energy seemed to carry over into the final 40 minutes. Excellent passing to get the goalie out of position helped set up a goal by Englin to tie the score with 29:47 left.
Ehrhardt would strike again 15 minutes later with a blast from the top of the circle, giving the Tigers the lead for good.
Worthington put pressure on Albert Lea over the remaining 14 minutes, but keeper Levi Kermes and the defense stood tall to keep the Tigers undefeated.
Albert Lea will put its 3-0 record on the line when Northfield comes to town Thursday.
Start time for the match is scheduled for 7 p.m.
