Marvin D. “Jake” Stenzel, 85, of Wells, died Friday, Aug. 26, 2016, at his home. A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Wells. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. The Rev. Andrew Vogel will officiate. Interment will be in St. Casimir Cemetery in Wells with military honors accorded by the Wells Color Guard. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home is assisting the family. Jake was born April 15, 1931, the son of Casimir and Dorothy (Bushlack) Stenzel in Wells. He attended St. Casimir’s Catholic School and Wells High School. He worked for a few years with his dad before joining the Air Force. Jake married Colleen Hedensten on Aug. 20, 1955, at St. Casimir’s Catholic Church in Wells. He worked as a carpenter with his dad and with Bob & Ron Builders before becoming self-employed. Jake enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, golf, playing cards and telling stories.
Jake is survived by his wife, Colleen Stenzel, of Wells; two sons, Randy Stenzel of Wells and Brian (Bridget) Stenzel of Plainview; grandchildren Jay Stenzel of Wells and Megan Stenzel (Pauly Wendt), Liz (Tyler) Meyers and Aaron Cowan, all of Plainview; great-grandchildren McKennah and Lane Wendt; brother, Kenneth (Pat) Stenzel, of Wells; sisters Lorriane (Val) Alksnis of California, Diane (Tom) Flynn of Winona and Sandy Korlath of Mound; sister-in-law, Patty Stenzel, of Longmont, Colorado; brother-in-law, Chuck Maag, of California; and aunt, Vic Bushlack, of Waseca; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Robert and David; sister; JoAnn Maag; and brothers-in-law Jack Korlath and Al Benner.
