At least 1 dead in I-35 crash

ELLENDALE — At least one person has died after a four-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday on Interstate 35 near Ellendale.
The crash closed northbound lanes on I-35 for at least five hours as first responders and law enforcement officers responded.
Names of people involved in the crash have not yet been released, but according to the Minnesota State Patrol five people were affected.
More information on the crash is expected to be released today.
According to the State Patrol, the crash began after a rear tire on a 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser reportedly blew, causing the driver to lose control, enter the median, roll and split in two. The car was heading southbound about one mile north of the Ellendale exit.
Part of the car reportedly came to rest in the northbound lanes, where it was struck by a 1998 Harley Davidson, a 2012 Dodge pickup and a 2015 Toyota Highlander.
The crash took place shortly after 5 p.m., and northbound lanes on I-35 near the scene were reportedly closed until after 10 p.m.
The Albert Lea Police Department, Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office, Steele County Sheriff’s Office, Ellendale fire and ambulance crews and Minnesota Department of Transportation assisted on scene.
The State Patrol report indicates identities of the people in the crash are expected to be released at noon. Look to the Tribune for more information as it is released.
