Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club
The Grapevine Twist Square Dance Club had a dance July 23 at the Senior Center at Skyline Plaza. Chuck Moore was the caller. Salads were served after the dance. Servers for the evening were Connie and Floran. The next dance was scheduled for July 30. Wayne Kubicek was the caller and a potluck was served.
The Grapevine Twist Square Dancers also performed at 5 p.m. Thursday in Entertainment Square at the Freeborn County Fair.
American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary had its 97th state convention from July 21 to July 23 in Rochester.
Auxiliary members from Glenville representing the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 264 were Darlene Hengesteg, treasurer Cindy Nelson, unit secretary Arlene Hajek and department page Angie Keltner.
Sandy Fredrickson of Glenville, state president of the American Legion Auxiliary, presided. Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede brought his greetings. Honorary Department Junior President Bryce Soltis, a member of the Waite Park Auxiliary No. 428, brought greetings from the junior members auxiliary. Greetings were also brought by the 2016 National Northwestern Division Honorary Vice President Jules Efta of Argyle Unit No. 353.
A special highlight of the convention was that a member of the Veterans Creative Arts Program played and sang a number of selections. The 9th District Band also performed.
The newly-elected officers for 2016-17 American Legion Auxiliary Department of Minnesota are Carol Kottom, department president from Buffalo; Donna Arends, department first vice president from Willmar; and Jean Walker, department second vice president from Warren. The newly-elected national executive committee chairwoman is Shirley Fredrick of Hackensack.
