Weekend Planner: Rock ’n’ roll tribute band to perform at Albert Lea theater

A tribute show to rock ’n’ roll greats Roy Orbison, Linda Ronstadt and Gene Pitney is coming to the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center on Friday.

The concert will be from 7 to 9 p.m.

The featured voice will be Wayne Luchau with female vocalists from the Girl Singers of the Hit Parade — Colleen Raye and Debbie O’Keefe — along with the Echoes Rock and Roll Band.

Look for favorites including “Pretty Woman,” “You Got It,” “Crying,” “Blue Bayou” and “When Will I Be Loved,” among others.

Tickets are $20 in advance or $25 the day of the show and are available at the ticket office or the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Marion Ross Performing Arts Center is at 147 N. Broadway.

 

Friday

• Kernel Days will be all day in Wells.

• An American Red Cross blood drive will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Crossroads Church.

• The Albert Lea Art Center’s “Barns are Noble” exhibit will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 226 W. Clark St. The exhibit honors past and present memories of the noble family barn.

• A concert by Jeff and Laurie Hays will be at 12:15 p.m. in the rotunda at Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

• “Asia Unfolding,” the sumi-e brush painting by Ming Chiao will continue from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative, 224 S. Broadway.

• An American Red Cross blood drive will be from 1 to 6 p.m. at Hollandale Reformed Church in Hollandale and from 1 to 7 p.m. at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons.

• An annual pork chop and sweet corn supper will be from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Clarks Grove Fire Hall. Donations will be accepted.

• The Pelican Breeze II will host a pizza cruise from 6 to 8 p.m., leaving from Frank Hall Park.

Reservations must be made by 4 p.m. Cost is $20 for pizza and the cruise. Call 383-7273 to reserve a spot.

• A free showing of “Cinderella” will be at 8:30 p.m. at the Edgewater Park bandshell. Find a seat or bring your own lawn chairs and blankets to watch the show.

 

Saturday

• Kernel Days will be all day in Wells.

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Northbridge Mall, 2510 Bridge Ave., and will include everything from local produce, baked goods, meats, crafts, gluten-free foods, flowers, bedding plants and more.

• The Albert Lea Art Center’s “Barns are Noble” exhibit will continue from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 226 W. Clark St.

The exhibit honors past and present memories of the noble family barn.

• An all-era family barbecue picnic with veterans will be at 1 p.m. at the shelter house at the fairgrounds in Northwood.

• Silver Lake Lutheran Church will host a salad luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Cost is $5 per person.

• “Asia Unfolding,” the sumi-e brush painting by Ming Chiao will continue from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Freeborn County Arts Initiative, 224 S. Broadway.

 

Sunday

• The Green Wing Ducks Unlimited banquet will be from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds.

Event includes games, prizes, raffles and a silent auction.

• Al Batt will host a Sunday cruise aboard the Pelican Breeze II at 1:30 p.m.

Passengers need to be at the boat by 1:15 p.m. Cost is $10 for the cruise.

• Prayer in the Park will begin at 5 p.m. at the Edgewater Park open pavilion. Prayers will be offered for teachers, students and staff of area schools, along with the upcoming elections.
