Wells man charged with criminal sexual conduct

A Wells man is facing prison time after allegedly engaging in sexual conduct with a 15-year-old girl in 2015.

Alex Lau, 24, has been charged with third-degree criminal sexual conduct in Faribault County District Court. He was scheduled to make his first appearance on the charge Monday, but reportedly did not appear, according to court officials.

Lau allegedly engaged in sexual penetration with a 15-year-old girl between August and December 2015.

Court documents state that in an interview with a Wells Police Department officer, Lau claimed he was aware of the alleged victim’s age, but claimed they had never had sexual intercourse.

He asserted one of the alleged victim’s family members had put her up to making the accusation.

The alleged victim reportedly admitted to having sexual intercourse with Lau.

Lau and the alleged victim both admitted to corresponding through Facebook, Snapchat and text messages, court documents state.

Third-degree criminal sexual conduct carries a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.

A warrant has not yet been issued.
