Albert Lea area under flood warning; schools to close, start late

The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for Albert Lea and the surrounding areas after heavy rainfall overnight.

Alden-Conger School is starting two hours late, and NRHEG has canceled classes for the day.

Law enforcement officials have reported between 3 and 6 inches of rain over already saturated soils.

Areas included in the warning are Wells, Blooming Prairie, New Richland, Clarks Grove, Ellendale, Minnesota Lake, Alden, Glenville, Geneva and Emmons.

The Weather Service advises people to turn around when they encounter flooded roads.

The warning is in effect through 4:45 p.m. today.
