MINNEAPOLIS — Authorities in Minneapolis said an Arizona teenager was fatally struck by a suspect who was fleeing police officers.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office identified her Monday as 16-year-old Diana Ivette Garcia-Alvarado, of Phoenix.
Police said officers spotted a vehicle driving recklessly Friday night. When the officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly fled and hit the pedestrian. The driver continued for a short distance then jumped out of the moving vehicle, which crashed into other vehicles.
The girl died at North Memorial Medical Center.
Police said the suspect tried to carjack a family’s vehicle before he was caught. Two felony warrants were out for his arrest, and a handgun was found in his crashed car. The suspect was taken to a hospital for treatment of his injuries.
