Celebrate the distinguished Albert Lea alumni

Previous to my being on the board of the Education Foundation of Albert Lea, I was not fully aware of one of the foundation’s events — the great celebration of distinguished Albert Lea High School alumni. The brainchild of Al Arends, the purpose of this Pathways to Success celebration of former Albert Lea students is to introduce current students and the community to individuals who have significantly contributed to humankind in the areas of business and economic endeavors and humanitarian and public service.
Recipients of the honor this year include Elmer R. Peterson, class of 1948 (posthumously awarded); James Horgen, class of 1956; Bruce A. Peterson, class of 1968; and Nancy Ophaug Beers, class of 1970.
These individuals, shining products of Albert Lea Area Schools and the community, bring myriad experiences, stories and advice to current students and community members. They will discuss these with students at ALHS, serving as examples of paths one may take on the road to a successful and fulfilling life and career.
The 2016 Pathways to Success recognition banquet is open to the public. Please consider joining in the celebration on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at Wedgewood Cove in Albert Lea. It will begin with a social gathering/cash bar at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and program at 6:30 p.m. The evening event naturally requires reservations, which can be made by going to the foundation website at www.efal-us.org/PathwaystoSuccess.htm, filling out the response form and mailing it with check for $40 per adult and $11 per child age 12 and younger to the Education Foundation of Albert Lea, P.O. Box 828, Albert Lea, MN, 56007.
Reservations and checks need to be received by Tuesday. Questions should be directed to Lilah Aas, president of the foundation board of directors, at the foundation email address edfound.al@gmail.com.
