This is in response to Don Sorensen’s letter in the Sept. 1 Tribune. He quotes the U.S. Constitution in defense of gun ownership and then distorts its meaning. The Second Amendment does not give gun rights to individuals; it gives gun rights to people who make up a regulated militia.

With gun violence on the rise in this country it is time for Congress to confront the NRA and pass some restrictive gun laws.
