BEMIDJI — Lawyers for a Bemidji man accused of kidnapping and raping a 5-year-old girl said he’s “largely unresponsive” and isn’t helping them defend him.
In a recent court filing, defense attorneys suggest 33-year-old Jacob Kinn may be mentally or physically ill. They say he’s been “largely unresponsive to stimuli,” refuses to walk, frequently urinates on himself and seems to have lost the ability to verbally communicate.
Kinn is charged with kidnapping the girl in June. She was found alive. No trial date is set, but his next hearing is Oct. 28. His attorneys are asking the court for access to his medical records.
Authorities initially suspected Kinn of involvement in a fatal mobile home fire that they thought was linked with the kidnapping but have not charged him in that matter.
