After some time off, the Albert Lea boys’ and girls cross country team headed to Owatonna to compete in the Ev Berg Invitational on a cold and rainy Thursday afternoon.
The boys’ team finished in 10th place out of 11 teams, and sophomore Leo Olveda led the way for the Tigers.
He finished the race in 36th place with a time of 17:45.
JV Moreno came in 45th place with a time of 17:55 and Grant Herfindahl was right on his heels, coming in 46th place with a time of 17:57.
Junior Noah Wiese finished in 59th place with a time of 18:42 and Joe Kreun came in 61st place with a time of 18:47. Carson Goodell and Josh Martinez finished back-to-back, coming in 64th and 65th place with times of 19:01 and 19:12, respectively.
On the girls’ side, Autumn Muilenburg continued her hot season. She finished in seventh place with a time of 19:44.
Tigers coach Jim Haney was impressed with his runners their performances.
“I was very happy with the results of the meet based on the times we posted,” Haney said. “The young runners stepped up and did an excellent job. (Olveda) had an impressive race and he challenged himself to lead the team, and he did. For the girls’ team, (Autumn) continued to drop more time and she was a true racer. She battled some very impressive runners on her way to finishing seventh.”
Albert Lea will race at Meadow Green Golf Course Tuesday. Start time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
