Bennett not right for Legislature

Peggy Bennett is not a person who will help bridge the divides at our legislature; to the contrary, she feeds them. In one of her columns in the Albert Lea Tribune, she bragged that the Republican House had fought against helping the metro area proceed with the light rail line from Minneapolis to Eden Prairie. She pressed her argument as a battle between the big city and the rural outstate legislators.

This effort to create a city person versus rural person contest is getting old and absurd. Old because it brings to mind stories I have heard of fights between city kids and farm kids after school. It was silly then and sillier now.

Peggy should remember that most of our kids leave Albert Lea after graduation, and many get jobs and homes in the Twin Cities metro area. We are happy that they can stay within 100 miles of us. A prosperous and efficient Twin Cities with an efficient transportation system is important to voters in Freeborn County.

We need a representative who looks out for outstate Minnesota, but must not return someone with the parochial outlook of Peggy Bennett back to St. Paul. She has given us two years of weak and ineffective leadership. Let’s elect Gary Schindler.
