Duplicate Bridge Club

Six tables of duplicate bridge was played at Sept. 13 at the Senior Center in Austin. Winners were Ray and Gail Schmidt, first; Ron Peters and Gene Muchow, second; Judy Bungum and Dave Solomonson, third; Barb Engebretson and Orrin Roisen, fourth; and Bud Higgins and Vandy Newman, fifth place. Duplicate Bridge includes players from Austin, Albert Lea, Adams and Rose Creek. The group meets at 12:30 p.m. each Tuesday at the Senior Center to play.

Joyce Crowe and Millie Siever, first; Dave Ring and Orrin Roisen and Eunice Michaelis and Warren Behrends tied for second and third place; Vandy Newman and Ron Peters, fourth place;

Barb Rofsush and Lorraine Quinnleven, fifth place; and Carolyn Higgins and Jim Fisher, sixth place.

Duplicate Bridge Club meets at noon every Wednesday at the Senior Center in Austin. All bridge players are encouraged to join the group.

Mansfield 4-H Club

Mansfield 4-H club had its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at Mansfield Town Hall. The meeting was called to order by Vice President Taige Suhr. Roll call was taken and six members, four adults and one guest were present. Secretary’s report was given and accepted by Raven Suhr. Treasure’s report was given and accepted by Jacob Songstad.

The club did very well at the county fair. Its banner got a blue ribbon. The next meeting will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4. The group will be ditch walking and host its annual picnic. Those interested in joining the Mansfield 4-H club, are welcome to do so.

Raven Suhr motioned to adjourn the meeting first and Madyson Stein seconded the motion.

United Methodist Church Women

Diane Westland of Hope Circle presented a program on Fruit of the Spirit from Galatians 5:22-23. Westland exhibited a collection of bubble gum items and related them to Bible verses.

The treasurer’s and secretary’s reports were given by JoAnn Seuser.

Emma Norton representative, Carolyn Smith, suggested that members purchase Christmas gifts for Emma Norton residents by Thanksgiving. Smith will deliver them before the Christmas holiday.

The Albert Lea United Methodist Church received a $500 grant to be used for Southwest Middle School — $200 of the grant will be used for school supplies for students.

Marcia Moyer reported that members will be serving refreshments at Oct. 30 at St. John’s Lutheran Community.

Members were reminded to think about ideas for L and G dollars collection.

The Southern Prairie District United Methodist Women was Sept. 24 at Waseca Faith United Methodist Church.

The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday with coffee served by Martha Circle and a program by Mary Grace Circle.
